Polynesians made contact with nearly every island within the vast Polynesian Triangle, using outrigger canoes or double-hulled canoes. Polynesian navigation was used for thousands of years to enable long voyages across thousands of kilometres of the open Pacific Ocean. Hopefully we get games even better than the ones in your fondest memories.Hawaiian navigators sailing multi-hulled canoe, c. I guess my point is, there will always be someone trying to make the next generation shooter. I understand better now why people can get motion sickness from games and the version I had in my head would basically be vomit-inducing for most people. That's when I started to get a better understanding of VR limitations regarding perceived motion versus a person's actual body motion. I was seriously considering making a VR-based prototype with the controllers used as maneuvering thrusters, but then I actually got my VR headset. Maybe learn to make one yourself? If you make it, will the gaming community popularize it, though? That's another question. I don't know if we'll ever get another game as good but somewhere someone will try.
What turned me off Tribes 2 was the servers getting fragmented by people playing so many different mods/rules, so I found it hard to find a local (low ping) casual game with my preferred mod.
I suppose my idealized conceptual model of an FPS game would be somewhere in between these two games. Haven't played T2 in a long time, but yes, it was one of my favorites. I also personally don't think people gave Crysis 2/3 multiplayer the light of day but they had some fun mechanics and fast-ish (not Tribes fast) gameplay but I don't quite hold it to the same level as TF. They'll sand-rake in the bucks but the game won't be better.
This is what Apex Legends/EA has done to the TF franchise. However, another comment on this thread made mention of Tribes perhaps needing a bastardized(imo) offshoot with a typical hero/F2P model. It will be a serious challenge because of all the bullet weapons in the game and the fast time-to-kill but it will award you with fulfilling kills if you can manage them and don't care about K/D. A nice alternative with still a decent skill curve that is perhaps less off-putting to mainstream gamers.Īnd if you really want to emulate Tribes, roll a loadout with a Grappling Hook (or Stim + wallrunning skills) and Hover and carry a weapon from the launcher class as they tend to move slower like the Spinfusor. The gameplay is fast and fluid, like the Tribes franchise, though characteristically way different in terms of types of freedom of movement and "vehicles". If OP is actually asking for a recommendation, this is it. Titanfall 1 was solid and TF2 incrementally improved upon it. Modern multiplayer shooters are just die/respawn rinse repeat every minute, mostly overpowered weapons or class, so much so it’s become a meme that you get headshot the moment you spawn. The interface for the community chat and collaboration was so seamless and well done, even latest multiplayer shooters struggle to provide this. I miss flying my shrike around and blasting unsuspecting loners but it was equally easy for a lone trooper to take down a shrike, the mechanics were so perfectly balanced.Īlso tribes 2 had the best community I’ve ever had pleasure to be part of, I met the most awesome and skilled players and always had a blast, it was more about having fun than being toxic. The gameplay and vast maps also allowed so much variety in gameplay. If anything many games are just catching up when it comes to vehicle combat. Every new multiplayer shooter I still compare it to tribes 2 Till date I feel like no multiplayer shooter game has come close in terms of gameplay, controls, sound track, community, etc. IMO tribes 2 is the greatest multi player shooter of all time.
